What the latest FABTECH announcement means for buyers
In its October 19 announcement, PPG highlighted industrial finishing technologies for FABTECH 2026, held in Las Vegas on October 21–23. Its powder offering included ENVIROCRON Extreme Protection Edge Plus, which PPG describes as improving corrosion protection on difficult sharp edges while producing a smoother finish than its first-generation high-edge formulation.
PPG's official product information also identifies angles, recesses and complex metal components as relevant applications. For buyers, this raises a useful purchasing question: does a proposed powder work on your actual geometry? A clean flat panel is a starting reference, but your approval plan should also examine the edges and hidden areas that the finished component contains.
Choose a trial part that represents the difficult geometry
Start with the component drawing and identify cut edges, bends, welds, grooves, holes and recessed faces. Record which surfaces remain exposed after assembly and which contact gaskets, bolts or another coated part. Include the production substrate and actual preparation route in the trial request.
For a grooved pipe fitting, that can mean inspecting the groove and gasket interface alongside the external face. For a valve or pipe coating project, distinguish external protection from any internal service requirement. A powder selected for the outside of an assembly should not automatically be approved for its wetted interior.
Agree where and how coating thickness will be checked
A single reading on the broad face leaves important inspection questions unanswered. Mark the measurement positions before spraying: the accessible face, areas close to the edge and representative recessed sections. Agree a suitable inspection method with the coater; measurements on a curved or narrow edge may need a different approach from a flat coupon.
Review those results together with appearance and dimensional fit. Do not respond to every thin location by simply increasing powder output across the entire part. Instead, compare the formulation, preparation, hanging orientation and application settings through a controlled trial. Record the actual part-temperature curing profile against the selected powder's technical data, rather than relying only on the oven display.
Match the acceptance test to the installed component
Describe the destination before choosing a test. Is the part indoors, outdoors, under a cover, periodically wet or exposed to a particular cleaner? State the substrate and preparation, then agree the test method, duration, specimen preparation and acceptance criteria. Identify whether assessment covers the face, edge, scribe, weld or assembled joint.
For external metalwork, DAMEI's outdoor pure polyester powder coating is a relevant product category to discuss. The final grade and coating system still need to match the project. If a trial uses a prepared or rounded edge, record that detail so it is not later compared with an untreated production edge as though both specimens were identical.
Prepare a representative-part sample request
A focused request makes it easier to propose a meaningful trial. Send this short checklist with your inquiry:
- A drawing or clear photographs showing the most difficult edges and recesses.
- Substrate, preparation route and the surfaces that must be coated or masked.
- Installation environment, contact fluids or cleaners, and required test criteria.
- Target color, gloss, texture, thickness range and important assembly tolerances.
- Available curing profile, expected quantity and the timing for sample approval.
DAMEI can review those inputs with you when discussing candidate powders and sample arrangements. Keep the approved panel, representative component and agreed inspection record together, then use the same references for the production review.
Contact DAMEI with your part details and coating requirements. We can help organize the next discussion around a representative sample and a clear approval plan, so the specification addresses the component you need to supply.
