DAMEI Wood Grain Powder Coating creates stunningly realistic wood effects on metal surfaces through advanced sublimation transfer technology. This innovative two-step process combines the beauty of natural wood with the durability and low maintenance of powder-coated metal, making it ideal for architectural aluminum, metal doors and windows, furniture, and decorative applications.
Traditional wood requires ongoing maintenance, is susceptible to rot, warping, and pest damage, and has limited durability in outdoor environments. DAMEI's wood grain powder coating delivers the aesthetic appeal of natural wood without any of its disadvantages:
Applications: Aluminum doors and windows, curtain walls, metal furniture, architectural cladding, railings, ceiling systems, interior decoration.
Our proprietary two-step process creates depth and realism impossible with direct print:
Step 1: Base Coat Application
- Spray light-colored powder coating base (white, cream, or light brown)
- Cure at 180-200°C to create smooth foundation
- Base coat provides adhesion and background color
Step 2: Wood Grain Transfer
- Apply heat-transfer film with wood grain pattern to cured base coat
- Heat and vacuum pressure activate sublimation inks
- Ink penetrates into powder coating surface
- Remove film to reveal permanent wood grain pattern
Result: Deep, three-dimensional wood texture with incredible detail - visible wood grain lines, knots, and natural wood color variations.
Choose from 100+ authentic wood species patterns:
Popular Hardwoods:
- Oak (red oak, white oak, quarter-sawn oak)
- Walnut (black walnut, European walnut)
- Cherry (American cherry, Brazilian cherry)
- Mahogany (African mahogany, Honduras mahogany)
- Maple (hard maple, bird's eye maple)
Exotic Woods:
- Teak (Burmese teak, African teak)
- Rosewood (Brazilian rosewood, Indian rosewood)
- Ebony (Macassar ebony, African ebony)
- Zebrawood, Wenge, Sapele
Rustic & Reclaimed Styles:

Doors & Windows:
- Residential entrance doors with wood appearance
- Commercial storefront systems
- Window frames and sashes
- Sliding patio doors
Advantages: Combines aluminum's strength and low maintenance with wood's aesthetic appeal. No painting, no rot, excellent energy efficiency with thermal break systems.
Advantages: Lightweight aluminum with wood appearance creates warm, natural building exteriors. Ideal for biophilic architectural design.
Advantages: Furniture looks like solid wood but never warps, cracks, or requires refinishing. Suitable for high-humidity environments (bathrooms, kitchens).
Advantages: Fire-resistant metal substrate with beautiful wood appearance. Easy installation, no wood dust during cutting.
Advantages: Outdoor wood railings deteriorate quickly. Wood grain aluminum provides permanent beauty without maintenance.
Step 1: Surface Preparation
1. Inspect cured base coat for defects (smooth, uniform color, no contamination)
2. Clean surface with alcohol to remove dust, fingerprints, oils
3. Allow to dry completely (moisture causes transfer defects)
Step 2: Film Application
1. Cut wood grain film to size (slightly larger than part surface)
2. Position film on part surface (wood grain direction correct)
3. Use heat-resistant tape to secure film edges
4. Ensure no wrinkles or air bubbles under film
Step 3: Transfer Parameters
1. Place part with film into vacuum chamber or heat press
2. Close chamber and activate vacuum pump (0.08-0.1 MPa)
3. Set temperature: 180-200°C (180°C for light colors, 200°C for dark)
4. Transfer time: 5-10 minutes depending on part size
- Small parts (<0.5m²): 5-6 minutes
- Medium parts (0.5-2m²): 7-8 minutes
- Large parts (>2m²): 9-10 minutes
Step 4: Film Removal
1. After transfer time complete, release vacuum slowly
2. Open chamber - parts will be hot (~150-180°C)
3. Allow to cool 1-2 minutes until touchable (~80-100°C)
4. Carefully peel transfer film at 45° angle
5. If film resists, part is still too hot - wait 30 seconds more
Step 5: Quality Inspection
1. Check complete wood grain pattern transfer (no blank spots)
2. Verify color density and clarity
3. Check for defects (bubbles, wrinkles, incomplete areas)
4. Touch-up or re-transfer if needed (same day only)
| Problem | Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Blank spots / incomplete transfer | Air trapped under film | Ensure film smooth, increase vacuum |
| Blurry wood grain | Temperature too low | Increase temp by 10°C |
| Color too light | Time too short or temp too low | Increase time or temp |
| Color too dark / over-saturated | Time too long or temp too high | Reduce time or temp |
| Bubbles in pattern | Moisture or contamination | Clean surface, ensure dry |
| Wrinkles in pattern | Film not smooth | Re-apply film carefully |

Our wood grain patterns are created from high-resolution scans of real wood, capturing every detail of natural grain, knots, and color variation. The sublimation process creates depth and realism that direct printing cannot match.
Unlike wood grain films that fade in 1-2 years, our sublimation transfer becomes part of the powder coating surface. Extensive outdoor testing shows 5-8 years of excellent appearance retention.
DAMEI has supplied wood grain powder systems to major aluminum profile manufacturers, door/window fabricators, and furniture manufacturers across China and internationally.
What We Provide:
✓ Base coat powder sample (5 kg)
✓ Wood grain transfer film samples (multiple patterns)
✓ Complete transfer process guidelines
✓ Equipment recommendations

A: Extremely realistic. Our sublimation process captures wood grain detail at high resolution with natural color gradations, knots, and texture. From 1-2 meters away, it's difficult to distinguish from real wood.
A: Minimal fading. Our outdoor-grade base coat and UV-resistant sublimation inks maintain excellent appearance for 5-8 years in outdoor exposure. This far exceeds direct-print wood grain films (1-2 years) and rivals or exceeds real wood stain durability.
A: Generally no. The transfer process requires specific base coat formulations optimized for sublimation ink reception. Standard powder coatings may not accept the transfer properly.
A: Custom wood grain film requires 500 m² minimum order (one production run). For testing, we can provide small samples of similar existing patterns before committing to custom film production.
A: Yes, due to the two-step process (base coat + transfer). Typical cost is 2-3× standard powder coating. However, this is still much less expensive than real wood or wood veneer on metal, with far superior durability and no maintenance.
A: Both. Wood grain powder coating works on any metal substrate - aluminum, steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel. Surface preparation and base coat adhesion are the key factors.
A: Simple soap and water or mild household cleaner with soft cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners or scrubbing pads that could scratch the surface. No special wood care products needed.
A: Standard sublimation transfer creates visual wood grain only (smooth surface). For textured wood effect, we offer special textured base coats that can be combined with wood grain transfer for both visual and tactile wood simulation.
